Records, records, records, John loves records...Hey welcome to my record room. I must admit it is one of my favourite places in the world to be. I have been collecting now for many years and have assembled a modest library of recordings that in many ways document my growing up as well as my developement as an artist. My collection has become like a photo album to me, each record or the sound of one song on an album prompting a detailed picture of moments, places or people. I still have everything from the now ragged copy of Beatlemania my Mother gave me when I was six to a recent ebay purchase of a Waits 45 from the Orphans sessions. Record collecting has always been alluring for me. Something about it caught me early on.

I've just been listening to an almost mint copy of Albert King: Born Under a Bad Sign. I've never had a really good copy of this record just a very worn old pressing I picked up somewhere years ago. This one is an eighties reissue that looks to have never been played, a stamped promo copy, perhaps stashed away by some retired record rep. or radio music director. Amazing to hear how King so clearly built one the more important bridges from blues to rock. His distinct single notes and string bends tower over everything thereafter. He was so just out in front of it all. It is easy to hear his powerful influence on so many. Cool record with a soulful horn section, that Stax production and the KING of tone. Very tasteful and honest arrangements and Wow what a guitar slinger!!! I met Albert King a long time ago briefly as he was loading in at the back of the stage at Ontario Place on a bill with Buddy Guy and Jr. Wells. He was wearing a ZZ Top ball cap. He gave me a b/w promo photo and signed it AB King with a red ball point. I've wanted a ZZ Top ball cap ever since.

Hope you'll drop in to Rutherford's Record Room and see what's on the turntable again sometime soon. I better shut down the old direct drive, I should be practicing my own music to get ready for the CD Release Tour beginning in January. Check out Live Shows, I'm adding dates all the time, lots still to be announced.
